Year 7

Year 7 students in geography will be developing the basic skills in geography including writing questions and completing surveys they will also complete map reading skills like direction and grid references

The knowledge will be focused on ecosystems understanding different biomes around the world, development understanding different cultures around the world including different types of countries NIC MDC LED, they will study the dynamics of the earth looking at plate tectonics understanding what natural disasters occur due to tectonics and also looking at different resources used around the world.

Year 8

Year 8 will develop map reading skills through developing higher order skills like 6 figure references, they ill be introduced to extended question in geography looking at case study examples.

The knowledge covered will include wild weather showing an understanding of how places are affected by extreme events, they will develop the understanding of different places and environments around the world through the use of film making them understand how different places have different features, they will look at the differences in urban and rural areas understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both of these, they will look at land for leisure and how people use land in different places and finally they will look at oceans and rivers understanding the key processes that occur within these natural features.

Year 9

Year 9 Study the WJEC exam board and their course involves an aspect of fieldwork during the GCSE they will participate in 2 outings.

Year 9 look at all GCSE questions skills being able to use geographical skills to answer map and location questions, Mathamatical skills being able to complete graphs. They also look at extended writing skills to be able to access longer GCSE questions

They will cover desertification where they will understand how places are impacted by the climate of an area and what pressures that puts on people, they will look at weather and climate developing what is learnt at KS3 focusing more on the processes and the key terminology to be able to complete detailed case study questions and annotation of diagrams, They will look at water supply and demand understanding about the difference between countries and their ability to access water as a resource and they will also look at coasts and rivers again building on the fundamentals at KS3 focusing on case study examples.

They will conduct one fieldwork trip and complete a SOW based around the skills/conduct and presentation of skills required on geography fieldwork

Year 10

In year 10 the skills are developing the geographical skills of map reading, interpreting graphs and analysing data also being able to add data onto graphs, they will continue to develop extended writing questions and be able to structure answers appropriately.

They will study climate change looking at a number of case studies around the world understanding how places have changed or need to adapt due to climate change, the will understand the fundamentals to the natural and manmade causes to climate change. They will develop the understanding at KS3 about urban and rural locations focusing on case study examples also they will study development focusing on key indicators that represent development showing if countries are MDC LDC NIC

Year 11

In year 11 the skills are developing the geographical skills of map reading, interpreting graphs and analysing data also being able to add data onto graphs, they will continue to develop extended writing questions and be able to structure answers appropriately.

They will study Employment focusing on changes in structure and what the key types of employment are, they will understand the importance of location of economic activity and what are the key reasons for businesses locations looking at case study examples, they will look at how the environment is changed due to economic activity, they will look at development focusing on the idea of water and how water stops development and understanding the importance of how development links to water.
